Lincolnton, NC -Barbara Mary Ludwig, 69, of Lincolnton North Carolina passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side, on Tuesday July 3, 2012 after a short but brave battle with cancer.
Born December 10, 1942, Barbara was the daughter of the late Joseph and Etta (Barbieri) Steinbach of West New York, New Jersey. She graduated from St Joseph’s High School. Later she worked at Western Union Telegraph and various law firms and county clerks’ offices as well as raising two lovely daughters.
On October 23, 1965, Barbara married Joseph A.  Ludwig of West New York, New Jersey, in St. Joseph’s of the Palisades Catholic Church. Together they traveled the world living inWest New York, North Bergen, NJ, River Vale NJ, Wehrheim Germany, Coral Springs Florida, Albuquerque New Mexico and Lake Forest California until finally settling in Lincolnton NC.
A loving wife, mother and beloved grandmother, her passions included cooking, painting watercolors, reading, writing, needlepoint, animals, the ocean and travel. She is survived by her husband Joseph, her two daughters, Jennifer Hollister (Andrew) and Sarah Ludwig, and two grandchildren Charlie and Jack. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt, Alice Steinbach, who raised her like a daughter.
Barbara’s quick wit and beautiful smile will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. There will be no visitation or funeral services locally, with a memorial service in New Jersey at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions may be made to Palliative Care and Hospice of Catawba County, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658, who made her final days as comfortable as possible.
