Lincolnton-Rachel Bernice Danner Rudisill, 85, of Lincolnton, died Friday, April 12, 2013, in Charlotte.

Mrs. Rudisill was born July 7, 1927, in Maiden, to the late Ray Emmitt Danner and Bertie Sallie Williams Danner. A descendent of pioneers of Lincoln-Catawba counties, she was a countrywoman whose devotion to family, friends, and church endured a lifetime. Mrs. Rudisill was preceded in death by her husband, William Claude Rudisill; beloved son, Robert Ray “Bob” Rudisill; sister, Florence D. Payseur, all of Lincolnton; and brothers, Howard W. Danner of Maiden, and Ronald R. Danner, of Newton.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda C. Rudisill, of Cary; grandson, Eric S. Rudisill, of Matthews; granddaughter, Hannah R. Vassey, of Lincolnton; four great-grandchildren, Noah, Lucas, and Seth Rudisill, and Madison Vassey; sister-in-law, Alta Danner, of Newton; brother-in-law, Judson Payseur, of Lincolnton; and her extraordinary nieces- and nephew-in-law, Mary R. Bridges, John Bridges, Linda R. McGinnis, and Ann R. Rinehardt.

Mrs. Rudisill was a hospital nurse for 44 years, working in Lincoln and Catawba counties, beginning at Reeves Gamble Hospital in Lincolnton. Her compassionate, attentive care and sunny personality, patients said, were the best medicine. Throughout her life, she also quietly cared for family and friends who were in declining health or suffering a loss.

Services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 1:00 pm at E. F. Drum Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 16, 2013 from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  Interment will be at Riverview Baptist Church Cemetery.  Revs. Guy Helms and Tommy Wright will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Ministries of Lincoln County-Linc Meals, P.O. Box 423, Lincolnton, NC 28092, or Hospice and Palliative Care-Lincoln, 107 N. Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Our mother/mother in law is a resident of Heath house. She was very fortunate to have Bernice as her roommate. We would visit our Mom(Floris Concato) and so enjoyed talking with Bernice,too..She was so kind and caring toward Floris as Floris is very confused at times. Bernice ,we felt, was sent by the Lord to Floris and us. She was a happy, fun, and patient woman...Our condolences especially to Mary Bridges and John Bridges who we met on their frequent visits to Bernice. God bless , you sweet Bernice...may you be visiting with your loved ones in heaven..... Richard and Nancy Concato

My mother is a resident at Heath House and Bernice was one of the most pleasant, friendly persons I have ever met. She was always smiling and happy to help with anything or anyone. She will be greatly missed.
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
