Flay Howard Morrison, Jr., age 80 of Lincolnton, passed away January 15, 2017 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, NC.  He was born on August 22, 1936 in Cleveland County to the late Flay Howard, Sr. and Ossie Brite Craig Morrison.  Flay was a member of South River Baptist Church.  He worked as a mechanic in the textile industry for many years and proudly served his country as a member of the NC National Guard.

In addition to his parents Flay was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jessie Mauney Morrison, one son, Gene Small, one daughter, Patty Queen, one brother, Walter Morrison, and two grandsons; Jonathan Small and Tony Small.

Mr. Morrison is survived by two sons; Joseph Small and Melvin Morrison and wife Rhonda, all of Lincolnton, three daughters; Joyce Gilmer, Kathy Avery and husband Bobby, Karen Reep and husband David, all of Lincolnton, one sister, Emmie Abernathy of Vale, one brother, Jim Morrison of Lincolnton, 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and many other cherished relatives and friends.

The Morrison family will receive friends Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 1:00 - 2:00pm at South River Baptist Church in Lincolnton, NC . The funeral service will follow at 2:00pm in the church sanctuary.  Pastor Derwin Greeson will officiate.  Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.

i was lucky enough to have worked with Flay and could name him as a friend. He was one of the most honest, down to earth people you would ever meet. He cared for his wife like no other i had seen. May his memories bring you peace and comfort in the days to come.
