James Edward Hovis, Sr., 90 of Lincolnton passed away at his residence on May 13, 2023. James was born on February 3, 1933 in Lincoln County to the late Waverly Jonas and Gladys Mamie Saine Hovis. He was a proud veteran that served in the U.S. Navy. After his service, he entered into the teaching profession. James retired as principal of Asbury Elementary School. He was a dedicated member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sheron Pauline Parker Hovis. He is survived by his four children; Denise H. Eurey and husband Corwin of Lincolnton, James E. Hovis, Jr, and wife Marilyn of Charleston, SC, Sandra H. Cansler and husband Rick of Maiden, and Kimberly H. Scronce and husband Rodney of Vale, one sister, Patricia Hovis Hance, one sister-in-law, Sharon Saine Hovis, seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many other cherished relatives and friends
The Hovis family will receive friends from 1 to 2pm on May 17, 2023 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lincolnton. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm in the sanctuary of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Pastor Chad Walker will be officiating. Interment and Navy Funeral Honors will follow the service at Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County. E.F. Drum Funeral Home of Lincolnton is entrusted with the arrangements.
