Selma Mary McNeely Carter, 89 of Lincolnton, passed away on June 28, 2023 at her residence. Selma was born on October 5, 1933 to the late Arther and Everlena Hastings McNeely in Cleveland County, NC. Selma started out in the restaurant business at the age of 15. She was a fixture and well known in Lincolnton's restaurant community. Selma worked at Ramseur's and the Lincoln House restaurants during her early years. She became a restaurant owner in 1977. Selma owned and managed the Carolina Restaurant from 1977 through 2007. She retired at 77 years-old. Selma was an avid golfer and a serious Bingo player. She was very active in her Oakland Mills apartment community. Selma knew everybody and loved to sit on her front porch and visit with her neighbors. She truly enjoyed spending time helping out those in the community. Selma loved spending time with her family, especially during the holidays.
Selma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Truman Leonard Carter. Selma is survived by one son, Tim Carter and wife Tonda of Lincolnton, two daughters; Ginger Weaver of Lincolnton, and Janice Keever of Vale, three sisters; Polly Teague of Lincolnton, Carolyn McEntire of Cherryville, and Ethel Downs of Casar, three grandsons; T.J. Carter and wife Heather of Lincolnton, Charlie WIse and David Wise both of Vale, one granddaughter, Lauren Barkley and husband Will of Hickory, two great-grandsons; Brady Wise and Tate Wise both of Vale, and one great-granddaughter, Willow Barkley.
